Importance of Keeping Your Cat Indoors

Choosing to keep your furry family members inside can be beneficial to them in many ways such as longevity of life and maintaining a close relationship with your cat. To begin, there are many dangers that can befall a roaming cat such as other cats, dogs, and unfortunately, people who may harm or be tempted to take in a wandering cat. One of the leading causes of death for outdoor cats is being struck by a vehicle. With this, cats are more likely to be exposed to toxic substances and the risk of contracting contagious diseases/viruses from other cats. A common misconception is that cats will be bored inside, which could lead to behavioral issues, but cats can be kept very happy indoors with environmental enrichment, such as toys and scratch posts/trees, treat puzzles (for engaging hunting instincts), and of course, spending time with their humans. Interactive toys can be great stimulation for cats, or wand toys can be great for bonding with your cat. Rotating toys can also help to keep your cat interested and happy. Lastly, adding window perches or a catio can allow your cat to safely observe the outside world while keeping them entertained indoors. So, please consider keeping your cats inside.
